Oneida Newton Canoy

January 16, 1937 — July 30, 2014

Oneida Newton Canoy, 77, of Monaco Circle, Clemson passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.

Born in Anderson, SC she was a daughter of the late J. Isaac and Ruth Lawrence Newton. Ms. Canoy was a successful entrepreneur and business owner. She was of the Methodist faith.

Oneida was known as "Nita" to all who knew and loved her. Nita's zest and passion for life was matched only by her amazing charisma and giving spirit. Those blessed to spend time with Nita experienced memories only she could deliver. Nita was as quick witted and funny as anyone you will ever know. She gave and added much too many. Whether partnering to help launch Greased Lightning, supporting the startup and success of Ole Norm's Hardware, pioneering and managing Clemson Mini-Storage or selling real estate throughout the Upstate Area, Nita left her influence and mark on many. Nita shared her success, giving to missions and those who labor daily in the service of others. She will be greatly missed and beautifully remembered.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen Canoy Alexander of Central and Norma Canoy (Todd) Newton of Clemson; two brothers, Philip (Betty Ann) Newton of Pickens, SC and Earl (Betty Jean) Newton, of Salisbury, NC; two sisters, Mary (Waldon) Kurtz of Chehalis, WA and Georgia Serocki, of Salisbury, NC; one grandson, Kipp C. (Jessie) Alexander; two great granddaughters, Aubrie and Ayla Alexander, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Roy Lee Newton.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Memory Gardens, Clemson conducted by Rev. Dr. Steve Ellis and Rev. Cole Fisher.

Memorials may be made to the Pickens County Cancer Association, 444 Hampton Ave, Pickens, SC 29671.

Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com or at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central, which is assisting the family.
