Opal Thompson, 85, 0f Greer, South Carolina and formerly of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Sunday June 12, 2022.Born in Mingo County West Virginia, She is the daughter of the late French William and Elva Gollie Hatfield and wife of the late Jerry Garrett Thompson who passed in 2011.


Opal worked 27 years before retiring from AT&T and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. Opal loved traveling and spending time with friends and family.


Opal is survived by three sons: Steven Garrett Thompson (Elizabeth), Kevin Thompson (Melody) and Scott Thompson (Lynne) four sisters; Barbara Murphy of Columbus, Ohio, Wanda Moore (Russell) of Hamilton Ohio, Maxine Weaver (William) of Celine, Ohio, Sharon Adams (Bruce) of Copley, Ohio and a brother; French Dwaine Hatfield (Sarah) of Wilmington, Ohio. Opal also has six grandchildren; Ian Thompson, Taylor Thompson (Johnathon Schultz), Jessica Platt (Tyler), Megan Thompson, Stephanie Lang (Jeff) Samantha Orton and three great grandchildren; Cooper Platt, Capri Thompson and Taylor Lang to share in her memory. Opal is preceded in death by two sisters; Geneva Grimes, Ruby Wiener and two brother in laws; Rich Weiner and Lon Murphy 


A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
