Otis R. Derrick

Otis Ray "Kump" Derrick, 96, husband of the late Virginia Owens Derrick, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, SC.
Mr. Derrick was born in Kanawha County, West Virginia, a son of the late W.W. and Hester M. Young Derrick. He was a graduate of Penn State University. He retired in 1965 from Union Carbide and also retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1971. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served as a Seabees in the South Pacific during W.W. II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, the Masonic Lodge AF & M #126 in Clendenin, West Virginia, the Scottish Rite in the Valley of Charleston, the Omar Temple in Mt Pleasant, SC and was a member of the Advent Christian Church in West Virginia.
Surviving are a daughter, Catherine "Sue" Derrick Bartee (Jimmie) of Isle of Palms; a brother, Jim E. (Sadie) Derrick, of Visalia, California; three grandchildren, Beth, Lee and Troy; four great-grandchildren and three great,great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Carol and a grandson, Ricky Bartee.
Graveside services and burial with Military and Masonic rites will be 2:00 PM Thursday August 30, 2012 in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Easley, SC.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM Thursday, prior to the service, at Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown, 305 West Main Street, Easley, SC.
