Patricia Elizabeth Owens,61, of Easley, SC, left this world on April 23, 2024. Patricia, or Patti as she was known by her loved ones, was a woman of many talents and passions, profoundly impacting all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Born on December 6, 1962, in the loving embrace of her parents, Edward Holloway and Betty Lockaby. Patti wore many hats throughout her life, excelling as a travel agent, paralegal, and a dedicated research assistant in the historical room at the library. Her thirst for knowledge and keen intellect shone brightly as she pursued her bachelor’s degree from Anderson University.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Patti will remember her as a strong and independent woman with a sharp wit and a dry sense of humor that never failed to elicit smiles (or eye rolls). While she may have been perceived as blunt to some, those closest to her knew that beneath her straightforward exterior lay a heart of gold. Her daughters were her world, and she showered them with empathy and unwavering support whenever they needed it.
In addition to her professional pursuits, Patti found joy in exploring the world through travel, most notably embarking on an unforgettable trip to Sweden with her mother. Her passion for genealogy led her to trace her roots back to Sweden, connecting with her heritage in a meaningful way. She also found a connection in gardening. A green thumb at heart, she poured love and care into her garden, finding solace in nature.
Music filled her soul with a particular fondness for bluegrass - except for the infamous tune "Rockytop." A talented musician herself, she played bass in the esteemed bluegrass band "The Mountain Roots," captivating audiences with her skill and passion.
Patti's journey through life was marked by resilience, determination, and unwavering love for her two daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie. She taught her girls to be strong and independent women, directing them to “use your brain, not mine” when they asked her questions that they could educate themselves on through a little determination and work. She taught them to think for themselves and to be honest like her. Family was everything to Patti, especially her beloved grandchildren who affectionately called her Mormor.
Patti is survived by her mother, Betty Lockaby, her daughters Jennifer Barker (Anthony) and Stephanie Robinson (David), as well as her sisters, Marie Wettig (Scott), Lori “Alora” Holloway and Kimberly Wilson (Chris). She also leaves her beautiful grandchildren Georgia Raine Robinson, Charles Alexander Robinson, and Sarah Elizabeth Barker behind. Her partner of six years and faithful bandmate, Jeff Hayes is also left behind.
Patti is predeceased by her father Edward “Nick” Holloway and her stepfather Heyward Lockaby.
The family will hold a celebration of life in the near future. Please check back for further updates. In the meantime Patti knows that her family will “figure it out” as she has taught them to do. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Young Appalachian Musicians YAM at 792 Holly Springs School Rd, Pickens, SC 29671.
