Fair Play, SC – Paul Eugene Burns, 78, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family Sunday January 24, 2021. He was born November 27, 1942 in Asheville, NC.
Gene started at the age of 18 working in the TV industry, getting his start at WFBC, then continued on to WLOS where he retired after 47 years of service. Gene had varied interests outside of television. He enjoyed music and motorcycles, race car driving, fishing, and shooting. He played bluegrass music for years. Above all, Gene loved his family.
Gene is survived by his son, Rob Burns and wife Jennifer of Murphy, NC; daughter, Nancy Anne Jones of Rock Hill, SC; granddaughter, Madeline Grace Burns; siblings, Ann Burns Courtney, Mercer Burns, Karen Doan, Darlene Fitzgerald, and Michael Shipman; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Jeannie Burns in June 2020; and a sister, Nancy Ann Burns.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 30th at Rock Hill Baptist Church, 450 Rock Hill Rd, Fair Play, SC, 29643.
