Obituary

Paul Walter Landon Smith, III, 57, of Easley, South Carolina, husband of Renee Elizabeth Smith, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

Born on September 16, 1968, in Greenville, South Carolina, he was a son of Joan Lockaby Smith and the late Paul Walter Landon Smith, Jr. A man whose life was marked by love, dedication, and unwavering strength, Paul left behind a legacy that touches the hearts of all who knew him, a legacy built on devotion, courage, and an unshakeable spirit. For many years, Paul served as the General Manager at Brockman Auto in Easley, South Carolina. Yet, his professional accomplishments were only one facet of a remarkable life defined by the depth of his character and the warmth of his heart. At home, Paul was above all a devoted father and husband, placing his beloved wife and children at the very center of his world. Those closest to him remember him as a proud and loving grandfather, whose eyes would light up whenever he spoke of his grandson, a precious bond he cherished and nurtured over the past two years. In the anticipation of new life, he excitedly awaited the arrival of his newest grandchildren, treasuring the hope and joy they would bring, especially looking forward to welcoming his first granddaughter. Paul’s devotion extended far beyond family ties. He was a beacon of reliability, dependability, and protection. His loyalty and honor shone through in every action, and his kindness had a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. He inspired those around him with a strength of character that was fearless and courageous, deeply rooted in an unwavering faith in God and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina. His battle with cancer was a testament to the man he always was, steadfast and determined. He faced every obstacle with grace and the heart of a true fighter, teaching those around him lessons of perseverance and hope that will never be forgotten. Paul was remembered not just as the best father, brother, son, friend, and husband but as a hero in the truest sense. His love, resilience, and boundless strength remain a comforting foundation for all who knew him, a lasting light in their lives. Wise beyond words and sharp as a tack, Paul had an insatiable love for history and learning. He took pride in the small things and held a deep belief in the values of hard work, family, and helping others. In his generous spirit, he served as a mentor, role model, and a source of guidance to many, giving his wisdom freely and always leading by example. Outside of his many roles, Paul found joy in the great outdoors — fishing, riding motorcycles, and embracing the beauty of nature were among his passions. He was also known for his storytelling, sharing captivating tales and pearls of wisdom with those around him, enriching the lives of friends and family alike.

In addition to his wife and mother, Paul is survived by a son, Landon Smith (Angelina); a daughter, Layton Smith (Brandon); a brother, Michael Smith (Denise); two sisters, Renae Ausburn (Keith) and Rhonda Lesley (J.J.); one grandson, Drake Smith and two on the way.

Though his family grieves deeply, there is comfort in knowing Paul is reunited with his beloved daughter, Larson Smith, and his father, Paul Walter Landon Smith, Jr., both of whom he loved dearly and carried in his heart every day since their passing.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM, on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at New Life Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 3:15 PM on Sunday prior to the service at the church.
