Peter Randolph Kapeluck, 67, husband of Florence Fain Ravenel Kapeluck, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at his residence in Clemson, SC.

Peter was born in Washington, D.C., to the late Peter and Bette Kapeluck. He graduated from Clemson University with a Ph.D. in Forestry and went on to work for the Clemson Forestry Department. One of his most notable achievements involved removing all the earth from the root system of a giant loblolly pine, a feat recorded in a picture hanging at the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia. After retiring from Clemson, he taught seventh grade science at Gettys Middle School in Easley.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of forty-one years, are two sons, DuBose Kapeluck (Anne Lassiter) of Charleston, SC, and Peter Randolph Kapeluck (Lauren Owsley) of Mobile, AL; his daughter, Fain K. Buete (Gary) of Baton Rouge, LA; two brothers, Mark and Timothy Kapeluck; a sister, Deborah Mulcahy; and eight grandchildren, Joseph Buete, Florence Buete, Will Buete, Eliza Kapeluck, Branwell Kapeluck, Cravens Kapeluck, Rainey Kapeluck and Sam Kapeluck.

Peter was a scholar, a gentleman, a wonderful husband and a devoted father. He was full of enthusiasm for his children and their families, willing to drop everything to come help them with various projects.

Memorial services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Church of the Holy Cross in Stateburg, SC.

The family will receive friends, following the service, at 1717 Heyward Street, Columbia, SC 29205.

Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the South Carolina Botanical Garden's Roland E. Schoenike Arboretum.
