Peter D. Owen, 85, of Central, passed away peacefully at the Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum, SC.

Pete was born in Long Island, NY, a son of the late Calvin and Margaret Owen.  He moved to Central, SC over 35 years ago and become fast friends with Geraldine Durham and her whole family.  He was a quiet man and enjoyed yard work, loved his church, Central Church of God of Prophecy and enjoyed Bible study.  Many in the Central community will remember him as the person who stood watch of Mt. Zion Cemetery on Main Street in Central along with his furry side kick, Honey Bee.  

He is survived by a daughter, Chrissy O. Deaton and her husband, Barry of Farmville, VA;  3 grandsons Joshua Hays, Matthew Hays and Christopher Thompson ; 2 great granddaughters, Hayden Christine Hays and Adison Hays; 2 great grandsons, Carson Thompson and Aiden Thompson; his adopted family the Geraldine Durham family; his special church friends, Wendall and Jane Miller of Fairplay, SC; and his devoted furry friend Honey Bee.

In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by a brother, Melvin Owen.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 PM, Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Central Church of God of Prophecy.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central Church of God of Prophecy, 107 Martin Street, Central, SC 29630.
