Phoebe Rollins, 87, of Easley, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at her former home of 50 years.
Born to James and Mildred Blackwell, Phoebe was born April 25, 1938 in Hendersonville, NC. She attended Montreat College 1956-1959, and graduated at Queens University of Charlotte in 1960. She taught two years at Rosa Edwards Elementary and four years at Hendersonville Jr. High.
After moving to Easley, SC in 1968, she taught at Easley Jr. High 1969-1993. Teaching was Phoebe's passion, and she continued to tutor and mentor students several years after retirement. Another passion was traveling. She made several trips to different countries of Europe, Italy being her favorite. She also went to Peru to see Machu Picchu, and hiked for two weeks in New Zealand in Nov. 2015.
Other activities she enjoyed were playing tennis, hiking, reading, watching movies, playing Mahjong, and working crossword puzzles. Having been blessed with extremely good health, she enjoyed a long happy life. Phoebe believed every word of the Apostle's Creed and today is with God and welcomed by those who have gone before.
She is survived by son, John Michael Rollins; one sister, Dottie Thompson of Hendersonville and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her former husband of 63 years, John Avery Rollins, a sister in law, Sarah Blackwell and brother in law Mitchell Osteen.
and a former sister-in-law, Eloise Crawford.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son, James David Rollins, sisters Lucille Osteen and Brenda Shipley, and two brothers, Thomas and James R. Blackwell.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM on Friday, May 1, 2026, in the Church Parlor at Easley Presbyterian Church at 200 S 1st St, Easley, SC 29640. Her funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 3:00 PM. The family invites anyone to the house following the service at 101 Sherwood Street, Easley, South Carolina, 20642.
