Phillip Ray Vassey, 73, of 140 Keowee Trail and husband of Anne Clarke Vassey, died Monday, May 30, 2011 at the R. M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Center in Anderson.
Born in Chesnee, SC, he was a son of the late Louel Phillip and Virginia Wilson Vassey. Phillip had 31 years of service with the federal government including the VA, IRS, Greenville Postal Service, Postmaster of Cateechee, SC and retired after 15 years as the Postmaster of Six Mile, SC. He served 4 years in the US Air Force and he had a passion for playing tennis, traveling with his wife and driving sports cars. He was a member of Ridgeland Drive Baptist Church in Six Mile.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Angela Stratis and husband, George of Orlando, FL and Kimberly Bray and husband, Scott of Mechanicsville, VA; step-son Patrick Brannon and wife, Janis of Franklin, NC; step-daughter Lori Thornton and husband, David of Dallas, NC; grandchildren Jessica Bray, Sarah Bray, Jenna Thornton, Lindsay Thornton, Garrett Thornton and Morgyn Brannon.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother Louel Reid Vassey.
Funeral services will be 3:30 PM, Wednesday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Friar officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery on the Clemson University campus.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:15 PM, Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
