Phyllis Bremner Browning

March 21, 1946 — June 12, 2024

Easley, South Carolina

Phyllis Bremner Browning, 78, of Greenville, SC, wife of William “Bill” D. Browning, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Philip W. Bremner, Jr. and Geraldine Moore Bremner. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, affectionately known as Mimi. Phyllis had a passion for creating special memories with her loved ones. She enjoyed living downtown where she and Bill were fond of taking daily walks. Mimi made it a tradition to take her grandkids out on individual days to spend quality time with each of them. One of the highlights every year was the Christmas baking day she hosted with her four granddaughters, bringing them together in laughter and joy. Her famous "Nancy" pie was a delight that will always be cherished by those who had the pleasure of tasting it. Her presence brought comfort to those around her, as she always provided a soft place for her family to land in times of need. Phyllis peacefully departed from this world, joining her beloved first husband of 28 years, Edward E. Porter, Jr., who had passed away on the same day 29 years earlier. Their love story began at a middle school dance and blossomed into a lifelong journey as high school sweethearts. Their bond was unbreakable and served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Phyllis was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, the Prime Time Life Group, and First Monday of Greenville, where she shared her warmth and wisdom with others.

In addition to her husband of seven years, she is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Porter Stokes of Taylors, and Julie Porter Rivers (Patrick) of Easley; and five grandchildren, Porter M. Covil (Ethan), Jasmine P. Rivers, Ryan E. Stokes, Shelby A. Stokes, and Savannah R. Stokes.

Visitation will be held at Greenville First Presbyterian Church on Saturday June 15th, from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM. A funeral service will follow in the Church starting at 2:00 PM. A private burial will follow at a later date.
