Robert Leon Thompson, 80, husband of Iris Patterson Thompson, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at An Med Health. A native of Chester, SC he was the son of the late Robert Leon Thompson, Sr. and Lucille Cassells Thompson.
He was a graduate of Erskine College and pursued post-graduate education at the University of South Carolina. He worked for American Enka for 30 years and retired as plant manager. He was a member of the Clemson Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all sports, especially Clemson University athletics.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons: Forrest Thompson (Lisa) of Shelby, NC and Grady Thompson (Allison) of Easley; sister, Katherine Horne of Greenwood and grandchildren, Nathan Christopher Smith and Christina Maria Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 4pm Monday at the Clemson Presbyterian Church with visitation to follow immediately after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clemson Presbyterian Church, 346 Old Greenville, Hwy., Clemson, SC 29631, Erskine College, Due West, SC or Bonclarken Assembly, 5 Pine Dr., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
