Ralph Martin Traynum, 90, died peacefully Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Cottingham Hospice House. He was born in Pickens County, a son of Rufus Walter and Mattie Lucille (Elrod) Traynum.
Ralph left school in the eighth grade to help his family run the farm. He later joined the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country during World War II. Later, Ralph was a brick mason and a boiler maker. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening, but was best known as a baker, making cakes, candies, and pies.
He is survived by a son, Marty Traynum, and wife, Tammy of Kingston Springs, TN; a daughter, Pam Glasser and husband, Mark of Central; nine grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Barbara, on June 2, 2010; four brothers, Wallace, Carl, Rufus, and Norman; and three sisters, Sarah, Janet, and Sybil.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 26 at Refuge Baptist Church, in Central. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall from 9:30 – 10:30 AM, prior to the service.
