Mr. Raymond Mays Crawford, 88, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024. He was born in London, KY, April 14, 1936 to the late George and Daisy Mays Crawford. Ray spent most of his youth growing up on the family farm in Millen, GA. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958. He was married to Elizabeth Ann Morgan Crawford (deceased January 2016) for 57 years. 

Ray was one of six children: brothers George, Ed, and Tom Crawford, and sisters Daisy Jody and Martha Christian (only surviving sibling). He is survived by his four children: a son, Chris Crawford (Sherrell) of Anderson; three daughters, Cassie Abernathy (Brad) of Cleveland, GA, Cindy Holmes (Mike) of Sharpsburg, GA, and Katherine Sudduth of Pickens, SC. He was extremely proud of his twelve grandchildren, Andrew Crawford (Amanda), Bryson Abernathy (Ellyse), Crawford Abernathy, Faith DeLosRios (Stephen), Josiah Abernathy, Skyler Holmes (Sophie), Sierra Johnson (Aaron), Savannah Hamelink (Jaap), Sicily Holmes, Annabelle Dickerson (Hayden), Ivy Sudduth, and Gracie Kate Sudduth. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren: Cole Crawford, Clayton Abernathy, Flynn Abernathy, Liam Abernathy, Seth Abernathy, Forsythia DeLosRios, Novallene Holmes, Thea Holmes, Baby Holmes (due December), Daisy Johnson, Wilder Johnson (due July), Ayalah Hamelink, and Hampton Dickerson. 

Ray loved spending time with his family, was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed his ham radio (W4VRO), loved animals, and British cars. He loved Jesus, had a close walk with the Lord, and often witnessed to others. He will be remembered for his love, kindness, wisdom, and quiet patience. 

Ray’s family will hold a private, graveside service. He is being laid to rest beside his wife at Holly Springs Baptist Church, 3450 Table Rock Road, Pickens, SC. Family members are at their respective homes. At the request of the family, please omit flowers and make memorials to Appalachian Bear Rescue.
