Reeve R. Hastings
Easley, SC
Reeve Robinson Hastings, 95, of 205 Bud Nalley Drive, Easley, SC passed away peacefully in Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital in Easley on November 26, 2008.
It was a gentle death in the company of family members and he was well prepared to meet his God. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Marion Jones Hastings and eldest son, Lawrence Reeve Hastings.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan of the late Donald Theodore and Louise Reeve Hastings. Reeve was an Eagle Scout and a 1936 graduate of the University of Michigan. For many years he was Chief Engineer of, and retired as head of R&D from, Stock Equipment Company, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He also served on the 1962 Chagrin Falls Village Charter Review Commission. Although he accomplished much as an engineer, he was far more interested in what he could do to help other people in need. He was an active member for many years of the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio and the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson, South Carolina. He also volunteered time and donations for Habitat for Humanity and Clemson Community Care. In the late 1980's, Reeve and Dorothy spent 2 ½ years serving at Good Shepherd Hospital in Tshikaji, Zaire. Reeve led a project sponsored by the Medical Benevolence Foundation of the Presbyterian Church to build a generating station to supply electricity to the Hospital from a nearby river. Dorothy helped through many tasks in the Hospital.
At his request, Reeve's body has been donated to the Medical University of South Carolina for research that he hopes will continue to help others.
Surviving are three children, Michael (Claire) of Piscataway, NJ; Cathy (Jim) Hinrichs of East Troy, WI; and Ralph (Gail) of Chagrin Falls, OH; daughter-in-law Libby Hastings, Belton, SC, plus 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
