Retha Joyce Cordell passed away on August 21, 2023. She was a kind-hearted lady who was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Her life was marked by her strong faith and dedication to her family and community.
Dedicated to her faith, Retha found solace in the church community. She actively
volunteered at First Baptist of Frostproof in Frostproof, FL and Lake Hills Baptist
Church in Enka Village, NC. Retha’s benevolent spirit and commitment made a
lasting impact on those around her. Aside from her devotion to family and church, Retha cultivated several hobbies and interests. She thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with loved ones as well as traveling.
One of Retha’s proudest accomplishments was being a loving mother and
grandmother. Left to cherish Retha’s many memories are her son, Randall Cordell
(Michelle); along with her daughter, Cheryl Wilkins, brought immeasurable joy to
her life. Retha had a special bond with her grandchildren, Leigha Cordell, Corky
Scott Cordell (Jola), Mahalie Miller (Brandon); as well as her great-grandchildren
Noah Miller, Mason Miller, Emma Miller, Ella Cordell, Sophia Cordell; a daughter-
in-law, Louise Cordell; brother-in-law Bill Cordell (Joyce). Retha cherished her family and maintained close relationships throughout her life.
Retha was born on July 14, 1929, in Jackson, TN to the late John Ashley and the
late Noreen Harris Ashley. Also preceding her in death are her sisters, Johnnie Williamson and Doris Bartels; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Johnson and Betty
McMahan; her late husband, Robert L Cordell, Sr. and son Robert L Cordell, Jr.
To honor the memory of Retha Joyce Cordell, visitation will be held at Lake Hills
Baptist Church on Friday, August 25th from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM. This will be followed by a Funeral Service at the same location from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The interment will take place on Saturday, August 26th at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Asheville, NC, starting at 11:00 AM.
Retha Joyce Cordell has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her. Her generosity, warm heart, and unwavering faith will remain an inspiration to all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her. May she rest in eternal peace as her spirit continues to live on in our cherished memories.
