Rev. Alvin "Buck" Wilson

March 14, 1935 — December 9, 2023

Reverend Alvin Leonard (Buck) Wilson, 88, went home to be with his lord on December 9, 2023. Buck was born in Central, SC and lived his adult life in service to God as pastor of High Falls (Seneca), Bountyland (Seneca), Duncan, North Aiken, and Platt Springs (Lexington), Churches of God in South Carolina. He retired from full time ministry in 2005 at the age of 70, but continued to teach and preach. He conducted Sunday Services for fellow residents of Belvedere Commons thru October. Buck married the love of his life, Ruby Lorene Earle in 1955 and they shared their lives, love, and ministry together for more than 68 years. He was a graduate of Central High School, Holmes Theological Seminary (BS, Sacred Literature), and earned his Master's of Pastoral Theology at the Church of God School of Theology at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. He also attended Clemson University, Southern Wesleyan, and Forrest Business School.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruby Lorene Wilson of Seneca, SC; and sons, Alan D. Wilson (Wendy) of Naples, FL and Alvin Donald (Donnie) Wilson (Gaie) of Seneca. He was the very proud Grandfather of Mitchell Wilson (Lauren), Mandi Wilson Arnold (Mark), Ryan Wilson (Allison), Christopher Wilson (Meghan), Taylor Wilson (Olivia), Anna Wilson Hogan (Gabe) and Russell Wilson as well as ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Russell Lee Wilson; his mother, Flora Thomas Wilson; and his father, Jessie Lee Alvin Wilson.

Buck loved God, his family and music and they were all connected through his whole life. His musical passion was the steel guitar, but he played most string instruments including guitar, bass, mandolin and piano. He used music extensively in his ministry and enjoyed regularly jamming with friends until recently. He and Lorene loved to travel and made two cross country driving trips in addition to visits to Israel, Europe, Alaska, Canada and Mexico. He was generous with his time, his resources, his sense of humor and he loved to connect to people. He especially loved visits with his grandchildren. He loved western movies, Clemson football and the beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains.

A celebration of life will be held at Central Church of God at 1:00pm with family receiving friends from 11:30 to 1:00. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Central.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Central, SC Church of God (204 College Street, Central, SC  29630) or St Jude’s Hospital ( /donate).
