Rev. J. Robert "Bob" Gibson, 69, of Powdersville, husband of Debbie I. Gibson, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 16, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, a son of the late John Thomas and Nancy Jane Wilson Gibson, Bob obtained a master's degree in Pastoral Ministry from Holmes Bible College and an associate degree in Mortuary Science from Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service. He also enriched his knowledge by attending Lee University. During his 15 years in ministry, Bob shepherded numerous congregations across different regions, leaving a profound impact on the communities he served. His exemplary leadership qualities led him to take on roles such as District Overseer for the Church of God in Michigan and member of the Michigan Church of God State Council. After his tenure as a minister, Bob transitioned seamlessly into the funeral service industry, where he devoted over 40 years of his life as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. His passion for guiding families through difficult times was evident in his work, touching the lives of many grieving families during his career until his retirement from Robinson Funeral Home in Easley, South Carolina. Described as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother with an infectious sense of humor, Bob touched the lives of many with his warmth and kindness. Beyond his professional achievements, Bob found joy in various hobbies such as traveling to the mountains, cooking elaborate family dinners, baking delicious treats, reading, and expressing himself through writing. A devoted member of Tremont Church of God, Bob actively contributed to the congregation as a Sunday School Teacher and taught Wednesday Night Services for numerous years. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his wife of 49 years, Bob is survived by two daughters, Christy Gibson-Brown (Jeremy) of Summerville, SC, and Heather Gibson-Keaton of Easley, SC; a brother, Art Gibson (Tracey) of Fountain Inn, SC; two grandchildren, Morgan Anders (Parker) of Easley, South Carolina, and Christian Brown of Summerville, SC; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Gene Gibson; and a granddaughter, Ashley Marie Keaton.
