Richard "Dick" Keith Mims

Richard “Dick” Keith Mims, 82, of Easley, beloved husband of Patricia Humphreys Mims, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Born in Cartersville, SC, he was the son of the late Richard k. Mims, Sr. and Mary Keith Hill Mims.

Dick’s journey began on a farm where he was raised, a humble start that led to the remarkable path his life would take, earning the respect of people worldwide. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Physics at Clemson A & M College, in which he was a proud member of the last graduating class, he embarked on a career as an engineer with Sonoco. His mind was a treasure trove of knowledge, earning him membership in MENSA, an organization that represents the best and brightest. His thirst for understanding of the world never waned, and he remained a mentor to many throughout his life, offering guidance and wisdom to those fortunate enough to cross his path. Dick always had an answer for everything.

Dick was an extremely family oriented and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He adored his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Gandad”or “Grandad”. His selflessness and generosity illuminated the paths of those fortunate enough to know him. His ability to engage and inspire stemmed from a deep familial bond that resonated through every corner of his existence; he was a true family man, nurturing relationships that transcended time and space.

Dick served his country honorably in the United States Army, completing a tour during the Vietnam War. Dick was a selfless individual whose actions spoke of valor and dignity.

Among one of his proudest accomplishments, Dick embraced his passion for aviation, crafting small planes and earning his pilot's license. Those flights were not merely journeys through clouds; they were reflections of his relentless spirit and wanderlust, embodying his belief that one should always reach for the stars. He would often share dreams of endless horizons with a gleam in his eye, inspiring others to pursue their own passions, leaving behind a legacy as profound as the sky he once soared through.

Along with his parents, Dick is preceded in death by sisters, Dianne and De Ette Mims.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by son, Keith Mims (Marci); daughter, Lesley Smit (Marco) and six grandchildren, Drayton Mims, Samantha Smit, Spencer Smit, Lexi Smit, Paul Smit and Brian Smit.

Dick’s celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road.

The family requests that guests honor his memory by wearing vibrant colors and casual attire, avoiding black or navy—much like Dick’s life, filled with brightness and joy.

As we celebrate the life of Richard Keith Mims, we are reminded of his vibrant spirit, his passions, and his unwavering dedication to both his family, neighbors and friends. May he memory of always wanting to lend a helping hand be remembered for years to come. Dick Mims may have left this earthly realm, yet his legacy will resonate through the memories held by family, friends, and all those he mentored.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Service Dogs for Veterans at https://www.sd4v.org, which was close to Dick’s heart.
