Richard Allison "Dick" Gantt, Sr., 74, of Powdersville, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Dick Gantt was a Christian, devoted husband, caring father, and an exceptionally warm and tender person who made everyone feel good.

Born in Loris, SC, Mr. Gantt was a son of the late William Adolphus and Alice Woodson Gantt. He graduated from Welcome High School, Furman University and received his J.D. from the USC Law School. Mr. Gantt, a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, also retired from Benefit Controls. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and the Sertoma Club.

Surviving are his wife, Adelaide Merritt Gantt, of the home; a son, Richard Allison Gantt, Jr. (Debra) of Easley; a daughter, Christine Gantt Sorenson (Scott) of Cleveland, SC; a twin brother, Major General (Ret.) William A. Gantt, Jr. (Brenda) of Greenville; a sister, Patricia Gantt McNeely (Al) of Columbia; and four grandchildren, Alex Sorenson, Addie Hoffman, Bridger Gantt, and Hailey Gantt.

Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, January 7, 2012 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1002 S. Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601. The committal service will be held following the sevice at the church columbarium.

Visitation will be 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road, Easley, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1002 S. Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601.

Family members are at their respective homes.
