Mr. Richard Day Powers, 56, of 222 Belvoir Drive, beloved husband of Laura L. Burge Marshall-Powers, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Baton Rouge, LA, Mr. Powers was a son of Marguerite Powers Fowler of Baton Rouge, LA, and the late Evans B. Powers. Mr. Powers was a graduate of LSU with a degree in Landscape Architecture. He was a registered Landscape Architect, LEED certified, and retired as Senior Project Manager with S&ME Inc. in Greenville, SC.
Richard enjoyed many hobbies such as fishing, photography, hiking, scuba diving, metal detecting, hunting, cooking, rock collecting, and most of all, playing his fiddle. He was a dedicated environmentalist, loved to garden with Laura, and utilized native plants to create naturally beautiful spaces. His love for the outdoors was evident in his work, his home, and his hobbies.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are a son, William Dickinson Powers of Pickens; a daughter, Alexandra Marguerite Powers of Pickens; a step-daughter, Ashley Michele Marshall of Pickens; three brothers, John Connor Powers (Kerri), Thomas Butler "Tim" Powers (Karen), and Michael Evans Powers (Terre), all of Baton Rouge, LA; a special aunt, Mary Murrell Ball of Atlanta, GA; nephews, Pierce, Ross, and Taylor; nieces, Drue and Hannah Day of Baton Rouge, LA; and countless cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be 4:00 PM Friday, February 28, 2014 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown Easley.
The family will receive friends Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.
