Dr. Richard Allen Wenglarz

Dr. Richard Allen Wenglarz, 77, of Seneca, SC, went on to be with the Lord on August 14, 2017. Richard, a native of East Peoria, Illinois was a son of the late John and Marie Wenglarz, and brother to the now Marilyn Jean Lester (Jim) of East Peoria, and Madelyn Carole Harrison (Jim) of Kingwood, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Jean Graves Wenglarz. He leaves behind his son, Ryan Aidan Wenglarz of Seneca, SC and daughter, Maura Lee Wenglarz of Indianapolis, IN.
Richard was retired from Clemson University where he worked with the South Carolina Institute for Energy Studies where he was involved with the Institute's Gas Turbine Research Program efforts. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a Master's Degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and subsequently received a Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1968. He held membership in many academic honors societies. He enjoyed mental exercises and the mental challenges of determining solutions for questions of Finance, Engineering, Math and was deeply dedicated to having clear understanding of causes of change in American society. His career work spanned affiliations with the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (England), Bell Laboratories (New Jersey), Westinghouse Corporation (Pennsylvania), General Motors Allison/Rolls Royce Engine Company (Indiana), and Clemson University (South Carolina). His career work was mainly in the areas of aerospace, ceramic materials and turbine engines, which resulted in the presenting of many invited lectures, including among others, at Yale University and Cambridge University (England).
Those who worked with him, and friend and family, knew him as a person of high integrity and reliability. Though he was known for his personal frugal ways, he was quick to give to those truly in need. He was a blessing to many. He cared about people.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central, SC.
A graveside committal service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday at Memory Gardens, Clemson, SC.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 AM Friday at Alive Wesleyan Church, Central, SC.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Voice of the Martyrs, 1815 SE Bison Road, Bartlesville, OK 74006.
