Richard F. "Dick" Wheeler

Dr. Richard F. Wheeler, 100 Shady Lane, Clemson, SC and of LaGrange, GA, died on Wednesday, September 11th. He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice A. Wheeler, grandson, Adam Drew, his brother, Hugh V. Wheeler and his sisters, Alda Carruth and Alice Marsh.
A native of Saluda, SC, he was the son of the late Hugh Lester and Cora Lake Wheeler. He was on the faculty of Clemson University and retired as Head of the Animal Science Department. Dr. Wheeler received his B.S. degree in 1941 from Clemson University, M.S. degree from Mississippi State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He was a member of Clemson United Methodist Church and attended First United Methodist Church, LaGrange, GA.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
Surviving are his son, Dean (Marlene) Wheeler of LaGrange, GA; daughter, Gayle (Luke) Staley of St. Simons Island, GA; grandchildren, Eric Surratt of Sylva, NC; Travis (Minde) Wheeler of Summerville, SC; Alecia (Luke) Clamp of Lexington, SC; and great-grandchildren, Ian and Alex Clamp and Caroline and Mackenzie Wheeler.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central, SC on Saturday, September 14th. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM at Woodland Cemetery on the Clemson University campus. Visitation will be held following the memorial service at the funeral home.
