R.J. “Jay” Basinger, 86, of Easley, died peacefully on Sunday May 15, 2016.


Born in Rowan County, NC, he was a son of the late Roy Jacob and Gussie Kluttz Basinger.


Mr. Basinger was a graduate of North Carolina State University. He was retired from Platt Saco Lowell as a General Engineer, a member of Easley First Baptist Church and was a member of the Easley Lions Club. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War.


A lifelong believer, he genuinely “walked the walk” in service to his Lord. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends as a kind, generous and gentle soul with a good sense of humor and a zest for life.


Jay is survived by his wife of 34 years, Anita Stokes Basinger; daughters, Donna Basinger, Kim Basinger, and Sandra Nalley and her husband, Benny; a granddaughter, Megan Nalley Chambers and her husband, Tyler; a brother, Dale Basinger; and a sister, Beatrice McCombs.


In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his twin sister, Fay Fowler.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.


The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday, from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Easley Lions Club, 205 Mary Ann Street, Easley, SC 29640.


The family will be at the home.
