Robert Lee Bowman

July 27, 1928 — February 22, 2016

On the morning of February 22, 2016, Robert “Bob” Bowman passed away peacefully with his son, daughter, and other loved ones by his side. Bob was being visited and comforted by family members and the staff at the Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Central, SC. He was 87 years young. Bob was born in the city of Ithaca in Thompkins County, NY on July 27, 1928. He was the youngest of 9 children born to P. Frank Bowman and Catherine Elizabeth “Bessie” Bowman. His younger years were spent working on the family dairy farm and attending the King Ferry School District. After working at Cornell Dairy and Cargill Salt he began his career at the Lansing Central School District.  There he served as a janitor, bus driver, and ultimately, as the Head of Grounds and Maintenance. He retired after 30 years of exemplary service. Serving his God, family, and community was a theme in Bob’s life as demonstrated by the fact that he was an active member and trustee of Asbury Assembly of God, and later as he attended Faith Bible Fellowship. Whether Bob was working on his 1956 John Deere, building blue bird houses, roasting apples over his woodstove, or just tinkering, he loved to be in his garage. The consummate practical jokester, Bob kept everyone he knew on his toes. Some of his other favorite pastimes included: hosting family and friends at his spring-fed pond, visiting around the campfire, teasing his wife, meeting the guys for coffee, giving grandchildren wild tractor and wagon rides, and showing slides and old movies of special times shared together. He was a loving, faithful man who lived a rich spirit-filled life. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Doris Parks Bowman; his brothers Harold, Sherman, Vernon, and Keith; and his sisters Edna and Lorena. Bob is survived by his son Rodney, along with his wife Patricia Bowman; his daughter Bonita Bowman Williams, along with her husband Donn Williams; and his siblings Maxine and Frank.  Bob had 5 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren who all enjoyed his witty sense of humor. There will be a memorial service at Brookdale Central on Thursday, Feb. 25th at 10am.  An additional memorial and graveside service will be held in the Lansing area on a date to be determined.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com.
