Robert D. Capell, 73, passed away February 19, 2014 in Columbia, SC after many years of an extensive battle with multiple chronic illnesses. He is with his Heavenly Father and his Creator and at last is rejoicing completely at peace in Heaven.

He was surrounded at the time of his death by loved ones and family.

Born in Easley, SC, the son of the late Fleda Findley Capell and Bruce William Capell. He was the beloved husband of Cheri Capell, of the home.

Robert devoted his entire life to medicine, music, teaching medicine and public service. He had numerable opportunities to serve a variety of organizations throughout his life, too many to mention. He leaves a legacy of the many countless lives he touched. He had an amazing gift to heal, care, teach, and give to others. He enjoyed teaching med students to excel.

Most important was his devotion to his loving wife and entire family. Family brought out a passion within him. He loved his family more than life itself. Above all he was a man of deep faith and love of God.

Surviving are his wife, Cheri; a sister, Linda Ann Carman; children, Bob, Lance, Blake, Chad and Lisa, plus several grandchildren, of whom he was very proud of their many accomplishments and adored them and an aunt, Asilee Looper.

The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later time in Carmel, California.

He had a very special and unique love of life. He loved to travel and was a talented musician. He loved nature, boating, sports and his greatest happiness was shared with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was delighted in the presence of his very entertaining and endearing pets,Brandy, Briquette, Genna, Capri and Natasha.

After graduation from Easley, SC High School, He received a degree in Biology and Physics from Wofford College and a Doctor of Medicine Degree from MUSC in Charleston. After internship in the Navy, he bacame Board Certified in Family Practice and Diagnostic Radiology. He graduated Submarine Medical School studying Hyperboric Medicine and Radiation Physics and qualified as a Navy diver. He made three war patrols on a Polaris Submarine and ended up a medical officer of Submarine Squadron Four in Charleston. After a long medical practice in California he bacame Medical Director for a national insurance company, WSA, and it's catastrophic care unit - QCMed. After medical retirement, he and his wife returned to South Carolina and he taught gross anatomy and microbiology at several local colleges for nearly fifteen years.

He and his wife did years of community service and were charter members of the Rotary Club. He and his wife were involved with local blood drives, fund raisers for Hospice, children's homes and abused women homes. They were instrumental in the development and implementation of a AED Response Team. He was past president and treasurer of the HOA's and men's clubs all over, for years.

He firmly believed that South Carolina was God's Golden Corner. He gave onsite physicals and served as team physician of football and basketball teams for several high schools and Lions Club. He also was a physician with the College of Utilization Review.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Foundation, 1 St. Francis Drive, Greenville, SC 29601 Attn: Outpatient Cancer Center at Millenium, Cardio Care or Diabetic Care.
