Capt. Robert Carlton Darling, NOAA Ret., 91 of Easley, husband of the late Edna Nickles Darling, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011 at North Greenville Hospital in Travelers Rest.
Born July 1, 1919 in Pittsfield, MA., he was the son of the late Harry and Irvona Tuxbury Darling. He was a graduate of The University of Vermont, with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He was a retired Captain with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, formerly the United States Coast Geodetic Survey with 30 years of service. He was a long time member of Easley Presbyterian Church
Surviving are his children, Robert Darling, Jr. of Oakridge, Oregon, Nancy Keefer, of Moncks Corner, Nina Darling, of Olney, Maryland, and Patricia Smith, of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Robbie Keefer, Jocelyn Keefer, Ryan Smith, Sarah Smith, Bart Westcott, and Bradley Westcott; great-grandchildren, Adams Keefer and Victoria Keefer.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Gracie.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, March 18, 2011 at the Foothills Presbyterian Home. Inurnment will be at 3:30 PM following the service in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
