Robert (Bob) Lee Hammersla, Sr., born December 14, 1919 in Hagersstown, MD, the son of the late William E. and Grace Irene Maugans Hammsla, died October 26, 2009.

He was a resident of Brighton Gardens Skilled Nursing in Greenville, and previously lived in Easley since 1982. Prior to 1982 he had been a resident of Jacksonville, FL.

Prior to his retirement Mr. Hammersla was a licensed Real Estate Broker and the Vice President of I B Nalle Real Estate Company in Jacksonville. He was also past president of the Jacksonville Property Managers Association.

Mr. Hammersla was a US Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a pilot with the 50th Troop Carrier Squadron flying C-47s and he retired with the rank of Captain.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Easley where he had served as a deacon and was active in the Coley Cleveland Sunday School Class and the Friendship Club.

Mr. Hammersla was a former member of Smithfield Country Club having served on the Board of Directors and was past President of the Senior Men's Golf Association.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years Matibel P. Hammersla of Brighton Gardens, a son Robert L. Hammersla, Jr. and wife, Debbie, a grandson Robert L. Hammersla, III, and his wife Lisa, a granddaughter Kristen Hammersla Wallace and her husband Kevin and five great-grandchildren Janie, Bo, and Ella Hammersla and Kaileigh and Kaden Wallace.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Easley with visitation to follow in the church narthex.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorals be made to the Upstate South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross in his honor, P.O. Box 9035, Greenville, SC 29604.
