Robert H Margenau

April 6, 2024 — November 10, 2024

Easley

Robert H. Margenau, 95, of Easley, SC, well known as Bob, was born on April 6, 1929, to Albert and Evelyn Margenau in Mount Vernon, NY. He left this world on November 10, 2024. Because his father passed away when he was only one and a half years old and his mother never remarried, Bob was an only child. He was raised by his mother and grandmother. Even though his family didn’t attend church regularly, his mother sent him to Sunday School and church where he participated in the youth choir. He made a public profession of faith when he was 16 years old.

During his life, Bob served his country and family faithfully and with integrity. He was a consummate traveler and enjoyed a variety of hobbies.

He joined the Air Force during the Korean War and served with honor. The military brought him to California, where he decided to stay. It was there that he met and married Lois McCollum. They settled in the San Francisco Bay Area to raise their family.

Bob cared for his family in many ways. He was an incredibly hard worker and even worked into his nineties, retiring at age 91. He worked various jobs throughout his life to provide everything his family enjoyed. He continually sought to deal honestly with other people in his work and even rejected employment that he discovered did not share his sense of integrity. His family vacations were carefully planned and executed and there were always many pictures to remember all the beautiful places they saw. He ensured that he and his family attended a Bible-believing and practicing church every week and that his two daughters attended Christian schools that taught what was right. One of his creeds was that the home, the church, and the school should all agree. As a committed father and husband, he understood the biblical principles of child raising and together with his wife Lois, did an excellent job instilling Christian values into his two daughters. Both Bob and Lois never let people praise their daughters for their looks, which might have made them vain. Instead, they focused on developing inner character. He also had a proper understanding of church worship music, and did not desire to attend any church that did not meet these standards.

In his later years, Bob and Lois had the opportunity to travel to Europe and Alaska. After that, he spent many happy moments traveling around the world virtually. In addition to his passion for travel and photography were his interests in croquet, boating, waterskiing, picking blackberries, swimming, biking, watching old movies, enjoying his cats, telling jokes, listening to classical music, playing games at home with family, furnishing his house with unique clocks, and staying up-to-date on the latest technology (that is--until the computer came along).

Bob is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Evelyn Margenau, and his grandchildren, Evangeline Brown, Christian, and Christiana Fartro.

Bob is survived by Lois, his wife of 61 years, two daughters, and twelve grandchildren. His daughter Lynn married the Reverend Jeff Fartro and their children are Leeland, James, and Sarabeth. His daughter Leanne married Mark Brown, and their children are Elizabeth, Abigail, Robert, Evelyn, Christine, Patrick, Arthur, Justin, and Edward.

Bob enjoyed a long and interesting life. His children walk in faith as he desired. His deeds in life will be remembered in the generations still to come.

The family will be hosting a memorial service at a later date.
