Robert Joel McKinney, 74, passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, September 3, 2011. He was born on July 3, 1937 to Howard Eckless and Jewel McKinney in Butler County, Kentucky.

Robert grew up in Morgantown, Kentucky. He served in the United States Army and then went on to manage Wickes Lumber Company for many years. Later he served as a building inspector in various cities. He was a loving and devoted husband and dedicated family man.

Robert was a tremendous athlete who enjoyed many sports, especially baseball and golf. He was also the number one fan of whatever women�??s basketball team his wife was coaching. Robert was known for his competitiveness and his great sense of humor. In retirement, playing golf with his friends was one of his greatest joys.

Robert is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cristy McKinney, one brother, Darrel McKinney, one sister, Debbie Dockery, brother in law, Darryl Doccckery and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Tony McKinney. He will also be missed by his wife�??s parents, Helen and Harold Earnhardt and his in-laws Mark & Karen Earnhardt and Leslie & Jon Heidrick.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Clemson at 2 pm. Visitation will follow the service in the Family Life Center. Details for a service in Butler County, Kentucky will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Clemson, 397 College Ave., Clemson, SC 29631.
