Robert W. McLellan
Clemson
On September 5, we lost Bob McLellan, beloved husband of Gina, father to Kathleen, Michael, and Lara, and friend to many who will miss him. Bob befriended every stray dog who came his way, adopting a steady stream of them. He loved refurbishing the quirky beauty of old cars, and his loved ones valued his ability to see worth where others might have failed to appreciate it. He was a great conversationalist, and his friends and family have fond memories of joining him for breakfast at his favorite local restaurants. He had a quietly irreverent sense of humor, a keen appreciation of the absurd, and an uncanny ability to keep a straight face while carrying out mischievous hilarity. He treated everyone he came across with courtesy and respect, and had a great understanding of what in life is truly important (and a limited tolerance for those things that are not).
Originally from Canada, Bob moved to Clemson over 40 years ago, and both his original and his adopted home were dear to him, as shown by his equal enthusiasm for both hockey and NASCAR. At Clemson University, Bob worked as faculty in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, acted as Editor of the Journal of Leisure Research, and served as Department Chair until his retirement in 2001.
Bob will be cremated and the family will have a private service. In lieu of flowers, please adopt a stray dog or keep an old car from the junkyard. Bob also supported the Ronald McDonald House.
Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com or at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central, which is assisting the family.
