Dr. Robert Jackson "Jack" Mercer, 83, of Clemson died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.
Born in Bolivia, NC, he was a son of the late Dorman L. and Annie Mae McKeithan Mercer. Jack was a long time resident of Clemson, SC. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelors and Masters Degree and earned his Doctorates Degree from Penn State University. He served in the US Air Force following his graduation from NC State. His career in Agricultural education provided him a position at Penn State University and professorships at North Carolina State University and Clemson University where he retired in 1993.
Surviving are his wife Kay David Mercer of the home; daughters, Jodie Kay Mercer of Woodstock, GA, Jackie Mercer Miller (Kenneth) of Canton; son, Robert Jackson Mercer, Jr. (Nicolle) of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Harrison Robert Miller of Canton, GA, Mary David Miller of Canton, GA, Nicholas James Mercer of Durham, NC and Jackson David Mercer of Durham, NC; brothers, Dorman Lowell Mercer, Jr of Rocky Point, NC and William Worth Mercer of Bolivia, NC.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at 12 Noon at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bolivia, NC. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be provided by Bethel United Methodist Church in Bolivia, NC immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 www.hospicehouse.net.
