Robert Cullis Oates, Jr., 81, of Hale Street, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, October 25, 2020.

Born in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Robert Cullis Oates, Sr. and Bernice Hendricks Oates.

Robert was a 1956 graduate of Easley High School and a 1960 graduate of The Medical University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy where he was a member of Kappa SI Fraternity and former class president. He was a Pharmacist for over 50 years having worked for Frierson's Drug Store and AnMed Health. He was a former member of the Sertoma Club in Easley and a member of Park Street Baptist Church for 59 years. He also was the music director at Park Street for several years.

Robert loved his Lord first, his family and he enjoyed genealogy, his grapevines and riding his grandchildren around the neighborhood on his tractor.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Martha Durham Oates; daughters, Angie Oates Grant (James) and Susan Oates Hutto (Steve) all of Easley; grandchildren, Jacob and Jarrad Whiten, Matthew and Meredith Grant, Megan Hutto, Jamey Hill (Cory) and Brittany Evon (Stevie); and great grandchildren, Lucas Whiten, Cameron and Bryson Hill, and Owen and Landon Evon; a special brother-in-law, Joe Durham; as well as several special nieces and nephews.

Robert was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Gregorie, Fran Thomason, Polly Smith, Nell Jenkins, and Janie Brown.

DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES… THE GRAVESIDE SERVICE HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL 2:00 PM THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2020 IN GREENLAWN MEMORIAL PARK. THE FAMILY WILL VISIT WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, AT THE GRAVESIDE.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church, 114 Robinson Avenue, Easley, SC 29640.

The family will be at the home.
