Roby Carter “R.C.” Harris

Roby Carter Harris, lovingly called R.C. by his friends and family, formerly of Mooresville, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
Born on February 20, 1940, in Statesville, NC, he was a son of the late Roy Lee and Beulah Barker Harris.
R.C. was a graduate of Harmony High School, class of 1958, and began playing banjo at 11 at the old historic Playhouse Theater in Statesville and become arguably one of the best banjo players in the Country. His accomplishments include playing banjo and singing Baritone with Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. R.C. then went on to become one of the original founding members of famed bluegrass band, BLUE DENIM. In the 1980s R.C. began his solo career as R.C. Harris and the Blue Denim recording 6 albums and being a guest musician and singer on countless other recordings. R.C. also had a passion for good Barbeque and even more so, GREAT Barbeque Sauce and created 5 String Barbeque Sauce.
R.C. retired as owner and operator of R.C. Harris Construction Company in Mooresville, NC. He also enjoyed classic cars and would attend car shows and Cruise-Ins all over the country. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Mooresville, NC.
R.C. lived a full life filled with love and dedication to his family and friends. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 32 years, Carolyn Ruff Harris. His legacy lives on through his children; Richard Harris and wife Michelle of Mooresville, NC, Suzanne H. Loftin and husband Shane of Denver, NC, Steve Bales and wife Kim, and Kristin Turner and husband Michael all of Easley. R.C. adored his grandchildren; Carter Harris (Devon), Hagen Harris (Steven), Jacob Loftin, Luke Propes (Aubrey), Molly Propes, Nathan Bales, and Korben Bales; great-grandchildren Finnley and Aubree; as well as his sister Phyllis Harris of TN.
In addition to his parents, R.C. was predeceased by his brothers Roy and Kenneth Harris.
A celebration of R.C.'s life will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 30, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Mooresville, 150 S. Church Street, Mooresville, NC 28115.
