Rodney Eugene Lewis, Sr., 87, husband of Ramona Grant Lewis, of Easley, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
Born in Mooresville, N.C., Rod was the son of Agnes Gray Lewis and Ralph Lee Lewis, Sr.
Rod was a member of Easley First Baptist Church since 1966, proudly served for seven years in the U.S. Marine Corps at Clarksville Army Base, Clarksville, Tenn., and in the Reserves, worked as a supervisor at Woodside Mill in Liberty, and owned and operated The Grant Company, for which he was a master welder. He attended Clemson University, where he studied textile management.
Rodney was a master gardener, avid coin and pocketknife collector, bird watcher, painter of natural landscapes, wood worker, Clemson Tiger, John Wayne fan, and ambassador for Jesus Christ. Rod used his construction talents for the Lord and served on mission trips across the country, building churches with the men’s mission group of Easley First Baptist Church. With Ramona, Rod travelled twice to Brazil and once to Romania with the Easley First Baptist Church foreign missions group. For ten years, Rodney and Ramona travelled out west to Noxon, Montana, and Glorieta, New Mexico, to build, repair, and renovate churches. Rod was a longtime member of the E. R. Eller Sunday School Class, church deacon, Sunday School teacher, and volunteer football coach for West End Elementary and the Easley Recreation Center. Rod was also a founding member of the Joe’s Morning Coffee Club.
In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, Rod is survived by his sons: Rodney “Rocky” Eugene Lewis, Jr. (Lindsay), Gray Morgan Lewis (Cheryl), John Lee Lewis, Sr. (Suzanne), and Rex Clay Lewis (Deanna); his daughter Ramona Paige “Duffy” Lewis; his sister, Jan Lewis Hice; ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Ralph Lee Lewis, Jr., Michael Gray Lewis, and Harold Warren Lewis.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, in the Easley First Baptist Church sanctuary.
The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service from 2:00 to 3:45 P.M. on Sunday, in the narthex of the sanctuary.
Rodney loved flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Impact Ministries, P.O. Box 8777, Myrtle Beach, S.C., 29578, through which Ramona ministers to children at Myrtle Beach Travel Park Campground.
