Roger Eugene Altop, 70, of Easley, South Carolina passed peacefully into his heavenly home on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at his residence with his family by his side. Roger was born in Greenville, South Carolina, the son of the late Jackie Eugene Altop and the late Frances Gaynelle McAlister Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robbie Johnson; and his sisters, Loretta Atkins and Demetrie Altop.

 

Roger served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Elljean Baptist Church. If you knew Roger, then you knew he loved God, family, friends, and country in this order. Roger was a retired fabricator with Nascar and an avid Nascar fan. He had started a small landscaping business after his retirement. He was a man that had to stay busy. Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a wonderful provider and always took pride in caring for his family. He enjoyed hotrods and classic cars. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golf in his spare time. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

Left to cherish his wonderful memories are his loving wife, Sonya Bohler Altop; his sons, Michael Eugene Altop (Janet Alexander), Jamie Ryan Altop, Matt Gardner (Molly), Jacob Gardner: his daughters, Kayla McRae Stone (Josh), Chloe Gardner, Olivia Gardner, Savannah Gardner (Evan Aldana); grandchildren, Christian Altop, Keli Grace Powell, Aubrie Powell, Talyn Altop, Kinsley Altop, Andrew Sanders, Conner Stone, Colin Stone, Caleb Stone, Kai Aldana, Layla Aldana, and Scarlett Gardner.

 

The family will receive friends between 9:00 – 10:45 AM on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Robinson Funeral Home – 305 W. Main St., Easley, SC 29640. The funeral service to honor Roger’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, following the visitation, in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – 305 W Main St., Easley, SC 29640. A private burial will take place following the service with military honors.

 

His great sense of humor will be missed at each family gathering and by his friends. His memories will be cherish for years to come.
