Mr. Roger Lee Henderson, 73, of 1100 Briarwood Drive, Easley, SC, loving husband of Gwendolyn "Gwen" Jean Cagle Henderson, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.


Roger was born in Greenville, SC on July 19, 1943 to the late James Jordan and Leila Iona Wilson Henderson. Raised in the Riverside community of Greenville, he graduated from Parker High School in 1962, and attended Greenville Technical College. He retired from Southern Bell (AT&T) after 39 years as a Communication Technician. He was very active in the Greenville Textile Heritage Society, where he volunteered with the museum and sang in the Chorale.


Roger was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church where he was in the Men in Action Group, the Love in Action Sunday School Class, a member of the Choir, and attended the Men's prayer group on Wednesday mornings. He was an avid Gamecock fan, loved gardening, spending time with his family, and playing golf. He served his country in the U.S. Navy  with the construction battalion in the Vietnam War.  


In addition to his loving wife, Roger is survived by a son; Danny Henderson (Michelle) of Mequon, Wisconsin; a daughter; Donna Henderson Ruffing (Gregory) of Charleston; a sister; Doris Henderson of Simpsonville; and seven grandchildren; Kayla, Benjamin, Millie, Henry, Zachary, Charli, and Taylor. Roger is also survived by a step-son; Anthony Croft (Stephanie) of Indonesia; a step-daughter; Dana Gordon of Atlanta; seven step-grandchildren; and numerous family and extended friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother; Raymond "Butch" Henderson; and a sister; Dean Garrett.


Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, with the Rev. Dr. David Gallamore officiating. A private burial will be held Monday at the M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery in Anderson.


The family will receive friends on Sunday prior to the service from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at the Church.


The family is at the residence.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Greenville Textile Heritage Park in Honor of Roger at P.O. Box 4355, Greenville, SC 29608
