Ronald D. Hughes, 88, husband of Kathy Luman (Ellers) Hughes, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at his home.
Born in Strang, Nebraska on June 20, 1930, he was a son of the late Ralph M. and Mildred Geweke Hughes. Ron was a graduate of Hastings College and was retired as the Director of Reliability with John Deere & Company in Moline, Illinois. He was a member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran. Ron enjoyed watching football, playing golf and was an accomplished sculptor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kathy Williams (Dan) of Eden Prairie, MN; son, Dave Hughes (Jane) of Ann Arbor, MI; brothers, Darrell, Kenneth and Gerald Hughes; sisters, Genevieve Tanner, Delores Murrell and Sharon Cudaback; grandchildren, Kim Michlin and Jenny Kilber, Ben Hughes, John Hughes, Sarah Williamson, Jim Hughes, Rebecca Hughes; 14 great grandchildren; step son, Joe Ellers (Jamie) of Anderson; step grandchildren, Emily Wheeler, Anna and Allie Ellers; and 1 step great granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Eugenia Carns Hughes; brother, Bob Hughes; and sisters, Carol Motis and Shirley Fowler.
Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, October 19, 2018 at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service in Tartan Hall.
Ron was a supporter of several charities so in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, South Carolina Special Olympics or to the charity of one's choice.
