Ronald John Smith

July 23, 1944 — April 3, 2022

Ronald J. Smith, 77, husband of Virginia Ellis Smith, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at his home.

Born in Newton, MA, a son of the late Iver Russell Smith and the late Ethel Dawson Smith, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed aviation, woodworking, farming, and spending time with his family. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves and he was a member of Palmetto Baptist Church in Powdersville.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his children, Andrew Smith (Carmen) of Milton, VT, Rebecca Hedgepath (James) of Easley, and Tim Smith (Joy) of Powdersville; a sister, C. Elaine Cummings (Warren) of Woburn, MA; and grandchildren, Ella Hedgepath, Zakary Hedgepath, Emma Hedgepath, Joshua Smith, Ellison Smith, Blythe Smith, and Jude Smith.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Norman Dawson Smith.

The family will host a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022 at Palmetto Baptist Church, 620 Powdersville Main, Easley, SC 29642.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Friday at the church, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
