Ronald Joseph Sowers, 80 of Anderson passed away suddenly Saturday, December 7, 2019, one week after celebrating his birthday. Ron leaves behind his wife, Bette; three children: son, Patrick Joseph Sowers (Missy) of Woodbridge, VA, and two daughters, Sandra Worthman (Gary), of Bowie Maryland and Jacquelyn Hogue (William), of Catlett, VA; one sister, Lois Buckspan of Salisbury, NC; eight grand-children: Jennifer, William, Allyson, Erin, Stephanie, Scott, Mary, and Lena; and five great-grand-children: Colton, Fallon, Hudson, Malakai, and Kaleb.
In addition to his parents, Vincent and Evie Sowers, Ron is preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Marie Sexton; a brother, Richard Sowers; and a sister, Marion O'Brien.
Ron retired as a construction supervisor leaving his fingerprints on many commercial buildings across the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. He enjoyed the art of racing, and spent many years drag racing his '63 Corvette. His true passion was boating. As a Life Member of the United States Power Squadron, Ron taught safe boating courses, and loved participating in navigation competitions. In his younger days, he volunteered with Bailey's Crossroads Fire and Rescue Department, and was active for many years with the Ruritan in Callao, VA. Ron always enjoyed watching NASCAR and classic car auctions, or spending the day at a tractor pull. He also restored several antique tractors.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites all to make a donation in Memory of Ron to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will be January 11, 2020 at 11 AM at Heritage Baptist Church in Woodbridge, Virginia.
