Ronald "Ron" Eugene Speer

Ronald Eugene “Ron” Speer, 78, of Easley SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 25th, 2025.

He was born on April 27th, 1947 to his father, the late Eugene Speer and mother, the late Carolyn Wardlaw Webb.

Ron graduated from Abbeville High School in 1965, and then received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Clemson University in 1969. Afterward, he joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Sunnyvale, CA responsible for military satellites. After an honorable discharge from the service, he went to work as a physicist for the Environmental Protection Agency located at Research Triangle Park until his retirement.

Ron was an avid hiker, a poet, an inventor (for which he recently received a patent), a history buff, and a collector of antiques and model cars.

Ron is survived by a brother, Barry Speer (Julie) of Williamston, SC; a sister, Cyndi Banks (Bill) of Liberty, SC; and a niece, Heather Oertel (Brent) of Toledo, OH, plus many cousins.

A memorial service for Ron will be held for close family and friends at a later date.
