Ronnie Eugene Hood, 74, died peacefully in his sleep, December 18, with his loving daughter by his side.
With heavy hearts, we remember and celebrate the life of a kind-hearted, generous, and deeply loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength to all who knew him.
Ronnie was first and foremost a devoted father to his precious daughter (Carissa Hood-Pope), who was not only his child, but also his best friend. Their bond was one built on trust, shared time, and countless memories—moments of conversation, laughter, and quiet understanding that will forever be treasured. He took great pride in being a father and found joy simply in being together. Through his daughter, he gained a son-in-law, James “Jay” Russell Pope, III. The two of them grew a special bond over the past 28 years. Jay always loved his quality time with Ronnie and depended on his father-in-law for guidance and support.
As a grandfather to his grandson, James Russell Pope IV, his love only grew. He was immensely proud of his wonderful grandson, delighting in every moment spent together and embracing the role with warmth, patience, and a playful spirit.
Ronnie’s first and only love was Carol McDonald “Hood” Golightly, and one that ran deep and strong. They remained close friends and shared many cherished memories during holidays, birthdays, and just regular family gatherings.
Ronnie was predeceased by his mother, Geneva Collins Hood; his brothers: Junior (James Grover Hood Jr), and Jack; his sisters: Betty and Janice. He is survived by one brother Roger, and three sisters: Parnelle, Retha, and Silvia.
A proud patriot, Ronnie served his country honorably in the Army National Guard, 2nd Battalion, 263rd Air Defense Artillery of Clemson, SC. After 21 years of service, Ronnie honorably retired with several awards pinned to his lapel including an expert rifleman pin, his favorite. His military training and service reflected his deep respect for duty, country, and community—values and morales he carried throughout his life.
That same dedication was reflected in his 46-year career at Clemson University, where his loyalty, work ethic, and commitment left a lasting legacy in the University Facilities Department and his name is among legends. Ronnie’s vast knowledge of his profession was invaluable and recognized.
A true craftsman, he had a remarkable talent for construction of all forms, always finding joy in building, fixing, and creating with his hands. Ronnie’s skills were matched by his willingness to help others, never hesitating to lend his time, knowledge, or support.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, generous heart, strong values, and unwavering love for his family. Though deeply missed, his influence and example will continue to guide those who loved and knew him.
He leaves behind a family forever grateful for the life he lived and the love he gave so freely. His memory will be cherished always.
Service times will be announced soon.
