Rosa Black Gibson

March 31, 1931 — April 21, 2026

Pendleton

Born on March 31, 1931, in Oconee County, South Carolina, Rosa was a daughter of John and Allie Carter Black.

Rosa spent the majority of her distinguished career at Clemson University, where she contributed significantly as a lab technician working for the United States Department of Agriculture. Her research focused on the correlation between "Brown Lung" and the cotton mills.

Beyond her professional achievements, Rosa was known for her heart for service and willingness to help others. She and her husband, Horace, were very involved with helping their community by directing the SOUP (Supper On Us Pendleton) program for over a decade. This program would temporarily help people around the Pendleton area by delivering hot meals to those in need.

Beyond her commitment to help others, She had a profound love for sewing, making clothing for her daughters as they grew up. She also found love in her flowers, her favorites being peonies and roses. Together, Rosa and Horace would travel around the southern US square-dancing, their "Homebase" being in Anderson.

In addition to her beloved husband, Rosa is survived by her two daughters Cheryl Peduzzi of Pendleton, and Alice Stegall of Richmond, TX; her four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and her sister Betty McAllister.

A visitation in honor of Rosa will be held Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 1:00 until 1:45 PM. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Duckett - Robinson Funeral Home and Crematory.
