Rosemary Marett Bryan

May 23, 1941 — August 16, 2014

Rosemary Marett Bryan, 73, of Clemson, SC, passed away August 16, 2014 at Clemson Downs. She was born in Royston, Georgia, on May 23, 1941, and grew up in Hartwell, Georgia, the daughter of Walter William Marett, Jr. and Thelma Aderhold Marett. She earned her Bachelors degree in Journalism from the University of Georgia in 1961. She married E. Lewis Bryan in 1961, and later earned a Master's degree in Library Science, with an emphasis on children's literature, from the University of Maryland, as well as a Master's degree in Public School Administration from Clemson University.

She lived in Spain and in Bahrain, and traveled extensively during her time abroad. Some of her favorite trips included travel to Singapore, Pakistan, Iran, Greece and Cyprus. In Kenya, her car was charged by a rhino; in Venezuela, she flew over Angel Falls; and in Egypt, she sailed from Luxor to Aswan.

Her passion, however, was her love of literature. She was an elementary school librarian, first in Prince William County, Virginia, then at Pickens Elementary School. After retiring, she served on the board and was active in the Clemson Child Development Center. She believed that reading opened doors to the world for young people and enriched life, and she worked to share her love of reading with everyone she met. Throughout her life, she enjoyed meeting new people and valued her wide circle of friends.

Her survivors include her brother, Walter William Marett, III, her aunt Dot Marett, her nephew Rodney Marett, her daughter Margaret B. White, and her daughter Elizabeth A. Berg, as well as five grandchildren, Isabel and Sophie White, Kaila Berg, and Rosalia and Nikolas Miranda.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM at University Lutheran Church, Clemson. Burial will be Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Northview Cemetery, Hartwell GA.

The family will receive friends on Friday August 22, 2014, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central.

Memorials may be made to Clemson Child Development Center, 216 Butler Street, Clemson, SC 29631
