Dr. Roy James Ellison, Jr.EasleyDr. Roy J. Ellison, Jr., 91, died Friday, September 30, 2016.Born in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Roy J., Sr. and Belle Stribling Ellison.He attended Spartanburg High School, Wofford College, and the Medical University of South Carolina. After an internship at Greenville General Hospital, he completed training at Duke University in Psychiatry. He returned to Greenville and practiced Psychiatry for over fifty years.He served as Medical Director of Marshall I. Pickens Hospital, Chairman of GHS Department of Psychiatry, Medical Director of the Children's Residential Program at Marshall I. Pickens Hospital, a consultant at Whitten Center and Clemson University Student Health, President of SC Psychiatric Association and President of Southern Psychiatric Association. He served on the SC Board of Medical Examiners as the first Psychiatrist and Legislative Representative of the SC Psychiatric Association.Dr. Ellison was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and a US Army Veteran having served in WWII.Surviving, in addition to his wife of forty-seven years, Diane Jones Ellison, are four sons, Roy J. Ellison, III (Rhonda) of Kennesaw, GA, Kent H. Ellison (Meshell) of Taylors, Mark S. Ellison of Taylors, and Michael J. Ellison (Karie) of Powdersville; four daughters, Kathryn Coker (Tony) of Travelers Rest, Marianne Melin (Ron) of Lawrenceville, GA, Melissa Cauthen (Buck) of Fort Mill, and Robyn Ellison of Easley; three brothers, Paul Ellison (Pat) of Shelby, NC, Jack Ellison (Anne) of Black Mountain, NC, and Dr. Tommy Ellison (Gail) of Fort Mill; a sister, Virginia Evans of Orangeburg; twenty-four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dr. Ellison was predeceased by a sister, Marianne Bartram.Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Augusta Street, Greenville. A private interment will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service, at the church.The family is at the home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gateway House, P.O.
