Rev. Roy Lee Newton, 85, formerly of Simpsonville and widower of Exie Lee Doss Newton, died Thursday, June 26, 2012 at the R.M. Campbell V.A. Nursing Center in Anderson.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Joseph Isaac and Ruth Virginia Lawrence Newton. Rev. Newton was a graduate of Marion University in Indiana and was a retired Wesleyan minister having served several churches in the upstate. He also formerly served as a flight instructor for Bob Jones University and was a self-employed plumber and electrician. He was also a US Army veteran of WWII.

Surviving are 2 brothers, Rev. Earl (Betty Jean) Newton of Salisbury, NC and Phillip (Betty Ann) Newton of Pickens; 3 sisters, Mary (Dr. Waldon) Kurtz of Chehalis, WA, Georgia Ann Siroki and Onida Canoy both of Clemson.

Funeral services will be 3 PM, Monday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central with burial to follow in Memory Gardens, Clemson.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 2:50 PM, Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family will be at their respective homes.
