Easley

Ruby Hester Spearman, 88, of Easley, SC, a devoted mother, a loving wife, and a woman of enduring faith and determination, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026. Born on September 8, 1937, to the late Ernest T. and Ethel Owens, Ruby's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to family, education, and community.

Growing up on a farm, Ruby embraced the responsibilities of caring for her siblings, nurturing a spirit of kindness and responsibility that would shape her character for a lifetime. Raised in the church, she had deep faith that was a cornerstone of her life, one she lovingly instilled in her children. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for many years, where she served on many boards and enjoyed spending her free time there. She and her husband, John, were members of the Pathfinders Sunday School Group, where they enjoyed fellowship and learning with many friends. Her nurturing nature was evident not only in her family life but also in how she encouraged her children to pursue both spiritual growth and educational achievement.

Ruby's career story is one of perseverance and passion. After dedicating years to research and development at Alice Manufacturing, she chose to follow her dreams by pursuing her realtor’s license. Her hard work and determination paid off as she enjoyed a fulfilling career spanning over thirty years in the local real estate industry. Her professional journey was a testament to her belief in lifelong learning and personal growth.

Ruby's marriage to her sweetheart, John, was a beautiful partnership that blossomed over forty-seven years. John fondly remembers her as his best friend and partner for life. Together, they created a blended family full of love, laughter, and memorable adventures through hikes and trips in the scenic Upstate region. Their shared love for the outdoors was a joyful thread weaving through their years together.

Apart from her professional and family life, Ruby had a passion for music, especially hymns, which echoed her faith and brought her comfort and joy. She also loved to travel, hike, and play golf, activities that reflected her lively spirit and zest for life.

Ruby is survived by her husband, John M. Spearman; her children, Richard D. Wilson (Lisa), James A. Wilson, Jr. (Amanda), and Virginia Ruth Spearman (Keith Rampey); ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Guynell Hester (Mickey).

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ethel Hester, and her siblings, Bruce Hester, Billy Joe Hester, J.D. Hester, Mary Ellen Guthrie, and Evelyn Aiken.
