Ruby Hanks Thompson, 88, a resident of Clemson since 1944, died Thursday, March 19, 2009.

Born in the Barkers Creek community in Anderson County, the daughter of the late Clarence E. Hanks and Mae Gambrell Hanks Carraway, she was the wife of the late James L. Thompson, Jr. She was retired from the Office of the Registrar at Clemson University. She was a long time, faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Clemson and the University Women's Club. She was also a member of the Fort Hill Garden Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Anita Thompson Monroe and husband Jimmy of Clemson; two sons, Stanley H. Thompson and wife Reba of Central, James C. Thompson and wife Linda of Charlotte; step-sisters, Ellen Green and Helen Needham of Charleston; and seven grandchildren, Arthur Bradford of Atlanta, GA, Judith Bradford of Austin, TX, Julia Russo of San Ramon, CA, Lynn Rodriguez of Easley, Beth Plumblee of Clemson, Jennifer Thompson Grabenstetter and Michael Thompson, both of Charlotte. Also surviving are a brother, Bruce Hanks, one niece and five nephews, all of Honea Path, and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Allen Hanks, William "Billy" Hanks, and Donald Hanks, all of Honea Path.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Old Stone Church Cemetery in Clemson.

Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday from 10 AM until 11 AM at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to either the building fund of the First Baptist Church of Clemson, 397 College Ave., Clemson, SC 29631 or to the Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
