Rupert Leary

March 5, 1940 — October 1, 2020

Rupert Leslie Leary, 80, husband of Dotty Suber Leary, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Leary was born in Greenwood and was a son of the late, William Linwood and Kate Pinson Leary. He was owner of Sears Catalog Stores for many years. He was a member of Abbeville Jaycees and enjoyed fishing, Clemson sports and especially watching his grandchildren. Mr. Leary was a member of Clemson First Baptist Church and the McLeod/Spencer Sunday School class.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are three sons, Rupert L. Leary Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Durham, NC, Hampton S. Leary of Central and John W. Leary and his wife, Shellie of Gaffney, SC; one daughter, Leslie L. Bell and her husband, Brett of Barnwell, SC; ten grandchildren.

Mr. Leary was preceded in death by a brother, Julius Leary and a sister, Josie Cox.

The body will be available for viewing at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2020.

Private graveside services will be Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM in Memory Gardens, Clemson.

Due to COVID-19 crisis and in accordance with CDC guidelines, we ask that mask and social distancing rules be followed.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Clemson First Baptist Church, 397 College Avenue, Clemson, SC 29631 or Providence Care Hospice, 634 Fairview Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
