Ruth Adcox
- Easley

Ruth Black Garrick Adcox, 95, of Easley, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011, at Shepherd's Care Center.

Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late Jacob Riley and Ella Mae Kilby Black, Mrs. Adcox retired from Stone Manufacturing and was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church.

Granny, or Miss Ruth, as she was known by many, lived a life that centered around God and family. She was well known within her church communities for her many years of service inside the church, but perhaps was most well known for her quiet faith and compassion outside the church. Throughout her life she ministered to those that she knew to be in need through visits, meals, support, love and prayers.

She took great joy in her gardening, always amazed at the beauty and wonder of every blossom and petal, never taking any for granted. One of her favorite things was her daily walk through her yard to note any new growth, blooms and just enjoy the beauty. She was quick to share her love and knowledge of gardening to any and all who came by for a visit.

Surviving are two sons, James D. Garrick (Evelyn) and Riley E. Garrick (Judy), all of Easley; a daughter, Janie Day (John) of Pickens; a sister Doris Fisher, of Easley; two step-children, Kenneth Adcox (Elaine) of Easley, and Nancy Holcombe of Anderson; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Adcox was predeceased by her first husband, James E. Garrick, and by her second husband, James Adcox, by a daughter, Ruth Ann Patrick, and by eight brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their appreciation to her caregiver, Rosa Bray of Shepherd's Care and to Harmony Care Hospice for the loving care they gave to Mrs. Adcox.

Memorials may be made to Smith Grove Baptist Church, 1220 Smith Grove Road, Easley, SC 29640 or to the Alzheimer's Unit of Shepherd's Care, 2100 North Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29609.
